Artist statement

The concept for this poster came from the idea of education as a journey. I believe that each stage in a person's education is a stepping stone that leads to new paths and directions. I wanted the poster to convey the freedom a person has in choosing his or her own learning path into any desired direction. As well, I wanted to emphasize the learning process and each step along it, since I believe that learning is not a destination but a life-long journey.

Biography

I was born in Coahuila, Mexico; October 23, 1985. Nothing much happened in the few first years since I was very young. Then, I went to kindergarten and I cried on the first day —blamed it on apple juice. Eventually I got used to school and loved it —loved it so much I kept going for the following 13 years of my life.

After finishing high school, I had to make a decision: should I keep going to school (the love was kind of wearing off, to be honest) or should I go venture into unknown lands? Unable to make up my mind, I decided on both. In August 2003, I arrived to Edmonton, Alberta; with no place to stay, no definite plan, and little-to-no-clue of how cold it would get in the following months.

Five years later, I'm at the end of my Bachelor of Design Degree, I've done a fair amount of freelance work and can't wait to graduate and start acting all grown-up and such. Sometimes.

Oh, and if I manage to get all my stuff together after graduating you'll be able to see some of my work at www.gosergiogo.com in the coming spring.
