Steering Group

The Steering Group works with the lead agency, UNB's College of Extended Learning, in administering ALKC's activities, and in articulaitng ALKC's vision, mission, strategic objectives and critical priorities.  Elections take place once a year.

Working Groups

The Adult Learning Knowledge Centre relies on the work undertaken by four working groups:

Knowledge Mobilization Working Group
Mandate:
To assist the knowledge centre with making recommendations to CCL regarding research priorities, providing leadership and support to applied research development and facilitating the development of research capacity.

Monitoring and Reporting Working Group
Mandate:
 To assist the knowledge centre by reviewing, developing, communicating and monitoring data on indicators and benchmarks related to adult learning issues.

Knowledge Exchange and Communications Working Group
Mandate:
To assist the knowledge centre with developing and implementing objectives, strategies, policies and activities related to knowledge exchange and communications.

Community Connections Working Group 
Mandate: 
To assist the knowledge centre in creating, fostering and enhancing regional and national networks in research-based and practice-based fields of adult learning in Canada, in order to provide multi-levelled forums for discussing and advancing adult learning.


Knowledge Mobilization Working Group (KMG)

Mandate

To assist the Adult Learning Knowledge Centre with making recommendations to CCL regarding research priorities, providing leadership and support to practice-grounded research development, and facilitating the development of research capacity. Keyword = Research

Responsibilities

The Knowledge Mobilization Working Group is responsible for helping the Adult Learning Knowledge Centre:

  • facilitate opportunities for researchers and practitioners to work together on research development;
  • facilitate research development that is practice-grounded, community-based, participatory, and action-oriented;
  • communicate information about current research to practitioners and policy-makers;
  • identify and provide (where possible) information resources to assist with building research capacity among organizations and practitioners;
  • develop recommendations for research priorities for next round of CCL research projects; and
  • set objectives and strategies related to knowledge mobilization.

Monitoring and Reporting Working Group (MARG)

Mandate

Responsibilities

The Monitoring and Reporting Working Group is responsible for helping the Adult Learning Knowledge Centre:

  • develop indicators on adult learning for CCL’s Composite Learning Index, in collaboration with CCL;
  • communicate methods for documenting, monitoring, and measuring success in adult learning programs across Canada; and
  • set objectives and strategies related to monitoring and reporting issues.

Knowledge Exchange and Communications Working Group (KEG)

Mandate

To assist the Adult Learning Knowledge Centre with developing and implementing objectives, strategies, policies, and activities related to knowledge exchange and communications. Keyword = exchange of knowledge

Responsibilities

The Knowledge Exchange and Communications Working Group is responsible for helping the Adult Learning Knowledge Centre:

  • raise the profile of adult learning in Canada;
  • develop, among Canadians, a better understanding of the role of adult learning in economic productivity, personal development, civic engagement, and social cohesion;
  • design and implement tools and mechanisms for knowledge exchange and communications;
  • develop a communications plan; and
  • set objectives and strategies related to knowledge exchange and communications.

Community Connections Working Group (CC)

Mandate

Responsibilities

The Community Connections Working Group is responsible for helping the Adult Learning Knowledge Centre:

  • develop recruitment strategies for the consortium, in keeping with ALKC’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, and accessibility;
  • develop relationships among diverse regional and national groups in the adult learning communities, including researchers, practitioners, adult learners, and other stakeholders;
  • identify practical and creative approaches in order to develop partnerships across potential barriers of language, geography, disability, sector, and area of interest, as well as other potential logistical and conceptual barriers;
  • identify ways to create ALKC as a “go-to” place for knowledge and leadership on adult learning issues and activities; and
  • set objectives and strategies related to network building and community outreach.
