The Adult Learning Knowledge Centre is pleased to announce the second speaker in its 2006 Adult Learning Speakers Series.
On June 1, 2006, Dr. Christine Holland will deliver a public talk, as part of a five-day institute on literacy titled “Synergy: Essential Skills in the Workplace.” Dr. Holland is a world expert in Workplace Basic Education. Based in New Zealand, Dr. Holland has advised governments in the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, on program and policy development. The institute will be held May 29-June 2 at Oak Island, Nova Scotia. Dr. Holland is a visiting lecturer at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto (OISE/UT).
The institute is a joint initiative of the NS Federation of Labour (NSFL) and the Association of Workplace Educators of NS (AWENS). NSFL is a labour organization representing 70,000 workers in 350 workplaces in NS, which is mandated to pursue social and economic justice for working people. AWENS is a network of practitioners who deliver and support essential skills programs (i.e. literacy and clear language) in both unionized and non-unionized settings under the Nova Scotia Workplace Education Initiative Partnership.
The Adult Learning Speakers Series is a project of the Adult Learning Knowledge Centre, which is a pan-Canadian organization that focuses on adult learning, created by the Canadian Council on Learning. The Speakers Series offers informed and innovative speakers who provide current information on adult learning issues to organizations and communities in Atlantic Canada.
