CAPLA Annual Conference, 2007 Fall Focus Workshop – Tools, Training and Trends

Event Description

The Annual Conference of the Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment (CAPLA) will offer sessions of interest to policy-makers, researchers, government officials, adult educators and learners, community organizations and employers from diverse sectors interested in adult learning, work and learning, literacy and post-secondary education. During this year's event, various CCL initiatives will be highlighted. Among these:

  • CCL's Work and Learning Knowledge Centre (WLKC) is sponsoring a session on “Skills Identification and Competency Profiling” that will bring together Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) practitioners and human resources (HR) professionals and employers to explore the connections between PLA and HR management practices. Alex Stephens, coordinator of the WLKC will be presenting at this session. Contact CAPLA's RFL Coordinator Gail Hall at www.recognitionforlearning.ca for a special invitation to the HR session.
  • CCL's Adult Learning Knowledge Centre (AdLKC) is presenting a session on PLA-related knowledge-exchange projects funded by the centre. Kathleen Flanagan, coordinator of the AdLKC is co-presenting the session with Marnie McIntosh of the Ontario Native Literacy Coalition. 
  • CCL's Adult Learning Knowledge Centre is also offering a session on the Mapping the Field (of adult learning) work undertaken by its Monitoring and Reporting Working Group.  The report’s writer, Rick Williams, will be presenting the results.
  • Judith Potter, director of the Adult Learning Knowledge Centre's lead organization (University of New Brunswick’s College of Extended Learning) is presenting a session on a CCL-funded research project on quality assurance and PLA. 
  • Douglas Myers, executive director of the Halifax PLA Centre, and Bonnie Kennedy, executive director of CAPLA, are presenting a plenary session on the CCL-supported framework for prior learning assessment.
