“Learning cities” embrace the fact that learning takes place in many different settings and throughout people's lives. They devise ways to bring learning and people together in order to strengthen the social and economic fabric of the community, and to ensure that learning is a pillar of community development.

This meeting will explore national and global perspectives regarding the activities of learning cities. Dr. Paul Cappon, president and CEO of the Canadian Council on Learning, will provide municipal and provincial officials with an overview of the organization’s Composite Learning Index (CLI), a tool that measures community progress in lifelong learning. A roundtable discussion will follow.
