PLAR Speaking Tour

A cross-Canada speaking tour is currently underway on the topic of quality assurance in prior learning assessment and recognition. The speaker is Joy Van Kleef, CEO, Canadian Institute for Recognizing Learning, based in Toronto. Speaking events have taken place in Charlottetown, Ottawa, and Vancouver. Upcoming events are:

  • Oct. 1 in Montreal with Concordia’s department of education and the Quebec Association for Adult Learning;
  • Oct. 2 in Laval to English school boards;
  • Oct. 20 in Ottawa at a symposium of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC).

Discussions are in development for possible speaker events in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Preparatory Meeting for CONFINTÉA

In preparation for the 6th Conférence internationale de l’UNESCO sur l’éducation des adultes (CONFINTÉA), which will take place in Brazil in May 2009, a consultation forum has been organized by ICÉA (Institut de coopération  pour l’éducation des adultes) and FCAF (Fédération canadienne pour l’alphabétisation en français).  AdLKC is sponsoring the consultation meeting, to take place in Montreal October 22-23.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss adult learning issues for Francophones in order to advise the Canadian delegation to CONFINTÉA. The Canadian delegation, which is appointed by the Council of Ministers of Education of Canada and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, will meet with invited participants at a subsequent consultation meeting in Toronto October 30-31.
