Date set for 2007 Work and Learning RFP
On April 2, 2007, CCL will launch a Request for Proposals to solicit applied research projects regarding work and learning in Canada. Submissions are invited from interested not-for-profit organizations, community-based organizations, labour organizations, and research or academic institutions. The closing date for this RFP is midnight on June 15, 2007 (PST).
CCL examines PSE in British Columbia
CCL has posted 21 Question Scans that address a wide range of issues surrounding post-secondary education—who doesn’t attend and why, the effect of research obligations on undergraduate education, and the connection between PSE and well-being. These scans, conducted by CCL for the B.C. government, gauge the volume of literature dealing with a given question and summarize the predominant themes found in that work. Question scans are used to evaluate the value and feasibility of undertaking a further systematic review devoted to a given topic.
Adult Learning Knowledge Centre’s 2007 national symposium
The Adult Learning Knowledge Centre's national symposium, The Right to Learn, will take place in Halifax, June 10–12, 2007. This annual event will provide an opportunity for dialogue about the rights and responsibilities of all Canadians to lifelong learning.
Work and Learning Knowledge Centre’s second annual symposium
The Work and Learning Knowledge Centre’s second annual symposium will be held in Ottawa from June 4–5, 2007. This unique knowledge exchange event will examine recent research and promising practices in workplace learning in Canada.
Dr. Paul Cappon addresses parliamentary committee
On March 20, 2007, Dr. Paul Cappon, CCL’s President and CEO, addressed the parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities as part of the committee’s study of issues regarding employability. During his presentation, Dr. Cappon highlighted recommendations from CCL’s first annual report on post-secondary education released in December 2006 and discussed issues surrounding workplace training and employability for Canadians and outlined five basic principles that CCL believes must underlie any successful workplace training initiative:

CCL research analyst presents to Society for Research in Child Development
CCL’s Julie Bélanger and D. Geoffrey Hall from the University of British Columbia are giving a presentation based on a poster titled “Origins of Lexical-Category-to-Meaning Links: The Count Noun/Proper Name Distinction.” This event is scheduled for Saturday, March 31, 4–6 p.m., during the Biennial Meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development, March 28 to April 1, 2007, in Boston.
