2008 Survey of Canadian Attitudes toward Learning (SCAL)

CCL has released its third SCAL report, examining Canadian opinions and experiences with respect to early childhood learning, structured learning, work-related learning, and health-related learning. Among the report’s many findings:

  • Parents are allowing young children less time for computer games than for television, videos and DVDs; and
  • Compared to last year’s SCAL, fewer Canadians believe public schools are preparing students for the working world.

Practically Speaking—Mental Health Works: Helping open eyes—and minds—about mental health in the workplace

According to Canada’s Public Health Agency, mental health and addiction problems cost the economy nearly $30 billion a year in lost productivity and other indirect costs. Ryan’s profile is one of six that explores what motivates adults to improve their literacy skills and how that decision can change their lives.
