CCL issues RFP for research projects in early childhood learning
CCL has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for research projects in early childhood learning in Canada. Community-based organizations, businesses, labour organizations, and research and academic institutions interested in entering into an agreement to conduct research projects on early childhood learning in Canada are invited to submit their proposals by midnight on Sept. 30, 2006 (EDT).
CCL posts state-of-the-field reviews—Simulation in Education and E-Learning
CCL has posted two more in its series of state-of-the-field reviews on different learning themes. The review of Simulation in Education was conducted by the Alberta Online Learning Consortium and the review of E-Learning was conducted by Concordia University.
In July 2005, CCL issued a request for proposals (RFP) for state-of-the-field reviews to identify existing research in different domains, the gaps in knowledge, and the most profitable lines for future inquiry. CCL is posting each review online.
Aldéa Landry appointed to the Order of Canada
Ms. Aldéa Landry, CCL board member since 2004, has been named a member of the Order of Canada for her distinguished service in the fields of industry, commerce and business.
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, announced the appointment on July 24, 2006. Ms. Landry will receive the insignia of the Order of Canada during a ceremony to be held at a later date.
Two coordinators hired for the Aboriginal Learning Knowledge Centre
Oki and greetings from Genevieve A. Fox in Calgary and Rita Bouvier in Saskatoon, the newly appointed coordinators of CCL’s Aboriginal Learning Knowledge Centre.
Staahtsistayaiki Genevieve A. Fox, from the Kainai Blood Tribe, brings over 20 years of experience as an educator to CCL.
Rita Bouvier comes to the council after 33 years of holding various positions in the public education sector. A dedicated volunteer and consultant, Ms. Bouvier has a B.Ed. and M.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan.
CCL’s 2005–2006 Annual Report now available online
CCL’s annual report for the year 2005–2006 is now available online.
Over the past year, CCL has built a strong foundation to become a catalyst for lifelong learning across Canada. This report highlights all the projects CCL is undertaking to achieve this goal. From setting up the five knowledge centres in five regions across Canada, to developing the Composite Learning Index, CCL is well on its way.
Reminder: New Journal of Applied Research on Learning calls for manuscripts
CCL is launching the Journal of Applied Research on Learning (JARL), Canada’s first publication devoted to this topic. The first issue of JARL will be released in April 2007. Submissions are due by Oct. 31, 2006. Authors of original applied research interested in submitting manuscripts to be considered for publication in JARL should start by reviewing the full call for submissions.
Reminder: Lessons in Learning: Apprenticeship training in Canada
The apprenticeship system has a long history as an effective vehicle for work-based learning. However, modern times have seen negative attitudes to apprenticeship and a poor image of trades, as well as a lack of information and awareness of apprenticeship. This is unfortunate because in the contemporary Canadian context, apprenticeship can help to address two distinct problems: labour shortages in the skilled trades and youth unemployment.
