Regional Roundtables on Employer Investment
in Workplace Learning

Updated April 1, 2009

What can we do to increase the quantity and quality of employer investment in workplace learning in Canada?

This was the subject addressed by four regional roundtables that took place in 2007 and 2008, and brought together senior government officials, regional senior representatives from business, labour, colleges/universities and NGOs, and regional members of the Work and Learning Knowledge Centre's lead organizations, the Canadian Labour Congress and Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters.

The roundtables aim to:

  • Help key stakeholders to identify practical steps they can take to ensure that the quantity and quality of workplace learning in Canada matches the needs of the economy and maximizes the potential of Canadian workers;
  • Allow the Work and Learning Knowledge Centre to better understand the variety of regional perspectives on workplace learning, as a basis for the development of its further work in this area; and
  • Allow regional stakeholders to gain a better understanding of each other's views and perspectives on approaches to promote workplace learning.

The final report on this initiative, Fostering Employer Investment in Workplace Learning: Report on a Series of Regional Roundtables, is now available for download. The report takes a look at the common themes and regional differences that emerged in the discussions that took place in Toronto, Halifax, Yellowknife and Edmonton.
