Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens (AEFO)
The AEFO represents teachers from francophone grade schools and high schools in Ontario, and the administrative, professional, and support staff of various francophone employers in Ontario. For the purpose of providing support to the francophone teaching staff in minority settings, the Researcher-in-Residence at the AEFO will be responsible for setting up research services and educational development, for implementing information management and distribution mechanisms, and for articulating a professional development model accessible to both individuals from the regions and urban centres. The establishment of a strategy allowing the AEFO to base their decisions on conclusive data is also part of the project.
Commission nationale des parents francophones (CNPF)
The Commission nationale des parents francophones (CNPF) is an organization devoted to the development of francophone parents in minority settings in Canada, which includes fostering their children's cultural identity. The Researcher-in-Residence at the CNPF will be responsible for cataloguing studies on infancy in francophone minority settings. The studies are catalogued according to their objectives, methodology, results, the region where they were carried out, and the sector studied. The project also includes the identification of a mechanism model enabling better access to conclusive data on infancy development.
Bow Valley College
For over 40 years, a Bow Valley College education has meant a hands-up to success for more than 250,000 people. Bow Valley College (located in Calgary, AB) offers programs leading to career certificates and diplomas, adult upgrading, and courses in English as a Second Language. At Bow Valley College, the Researcher-in-Residence provides in-house expertise on applied research around teaching and learning, and provides a high level of communication, mentoring, and engagement with faculty to assist them to build research knowledge and skills to benefit the learning experience of the unique and diverse Bow Valley College student population.
Durham College
The Researcher-in-Residence at Durham College will undertake a research project and provide recommendations on expanding Durham College's capacity to contribute to the innovation and productivity agenda of the region, the province, and the country. Specifically, the researcher will gather information about colleges' role in applied research, clarify requirements and scope for building the College's research capacity, engage with and survey faculty on areas of research strength and barriers to implementation, assist in setting a research agenda for the college in the context of the college's identified strengths, open up more pathways to collaborate with other colleges, clarify/identify sources of funding for applied research activities, and set an example for well-conducted rigorous academic research.
Greater Essex County District School Board
The Greater Essex County District School Board is the fourth largest employer in the region with over 4000 staff members, including approximately 2500 teaching staff. The current ear of accountability in education and the provincial Managing Information for Student Achievement (MISA) initiative requires that educators collect, analyze, and use data to make informed decisions to improve student achievement and support staff development. The Researcher-in-Residence will assist teachers and administrators in developing skills to use data effectively for school improvement. The Researcher-in-Residence will develop and deliver a training program that will engage educators in conducting action research for the purpose of building reflection, making progress on educational priorities, and building professional cultures.
Southwest Horizon School Division
The Southwest Horizon School Division is situated in south-western Manitoba. It serves seven K-12 schools with a total population of 1572 students and approximately 450 staff (teaching and support). Like other rural divisions, the Southwest Horizon School Division is forced to make difficult and often complex decisions when confronted with the challenges of rural depopulation, school closures, labour force development, and access to postsecondary education. A significant challenge for rural communities is to find and provide meaningful and timely information to a variety of rural constituents, such as municipalities, parent advisory councils, universities, community colleges, and provincial government policy-makers. The Researcher-in-Residence will work with the Southwest Horizon School Division to develop local (evidence-based) research capacity in order to sustain the Division’s ability to make informed decisions on various needs, challenges, and opportunities for learning in their community.
Okanagan Science Centre (The Vernon Science & Discovery Society)
The Okanagan Science Centre was created in 1985 and is located in Polson Park, Vernon, British Columbia. Its mission is to inspire scientific inquiry through dynamic and interactive educational programs and exhibits and to encourage children and adults to appreciate the relevance and universality of science and its application in the Okanagan. The research needs of the Centre include understanding how to improve the effectiveness of work with the schools, how to work more effectively with children and adults not currently well served by the Centre, and how to understand the learning occurring in current programs and exhibits. The Researcher-in-Residence is assisting with capacity building of the educational team and board of directors through reviewing relevant research and developing a future agenda for research on learning at the Centre.
Toronto Community Housing Corporation
Toronto Community Housing (TCH) is a not-for-profit housing corporation that provides almost 60,000 rental units for approximately 164,000 low- and moderate- income tenants (about 6% of Toronto’s population). The Researcher-in-Residence will assist TCH to develop its capacity to undertake research and evaluation and use evidence-based information as the basis for improved services, practical solutions, strong advocacy positions, and sound decision-making and program and policy development in order to more effectively serve our communities and improve the quality of life for tenants.
