The Work and Learning Knowledge Centre (WLKC) is pleased to invite you to its Second Annual Symposium on June 4, 2007 (evening) and June 5, 2007 (all day).

WHO CAN ATTEND?

The Symposium is open to members of the WLKC as well as other individuals and organizations with a strong interest in work-related learning.

HOW TO REGISTER?

Please register before May 16, 2007 in order to take advantage of the special Symposium hotel room rate. Non-WLKC members are advised that in the event we reach the conference room’s seating capacity, seats will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

June 4, 2007 - Reception and dinner hosted by:

  • The Honourable Perrin Beatty, President and CEO, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, Work and Learning Knowledge Centre Co-Lead and;
  • Angela Schira, Secretary-Treasurer, British Columbia Federation of Labour and Board Member, Canadian Council on Learning.

Keynote Speaker (confirmed)

  • The Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Canada

June 5, 2007

  • A full day of sessions including presentations, panels, and round table discussions.
  • Speakers will include WLKC members from business, labour, and other stakeholder groups.

Featured sessions include:

  • Panel discussions on:
    • Provincial-level partnerships for policy development on workplace learning;
    • Commentary on the role of the UK’s Adult Learning Inspectorate in supporting workplace learning, based on a CCL fact-finding mission in 2006;

  • Round table discussions on topical issues including:
    • What are the roles of business, labour, government and others in promoting workplace learning in Canada?
    • How has the Work and Learning Knowledge Centre performed in its first year?

  • A knowledge exchange session featuring informal presentations in which workplaces with innovative or promising work-related learning practices will share their experience.
