The 21st Century Learning Initiative in Canada

The Canadian Council on Learning (CCL) is developing a pan-Canadian program to advance the work of the 21st Century Learning Initiative in Canada.

To launch the Canadian branch of the 21st Century Learning Initiative, CCL is sponsoring a conference, Learning and the Community, on September 12–13, 2005, in Toronto. NGOs, policy makers, practitioners and academics will have the opportunity to learn about the Initiative from its founder and CEO, John Abbott. The Initiative synthesizes research into the nature of human learning and examines its implications for education, work, and the development of communities.

CCL’s President and CEO, Paul Cappon stated: “CCL and the 21st Century Learning Initiative share a common goal of promoting effective learning practices and policies. Establishing this partnership can only improve both our organizations’ effectiveness.”

The conference will be followed by a series of intensive training workshops across Canada.

More information on the 21st Century Learning Initiative can be found at www.21learn.org. For more information about the conference, please consult the preliminary program or contact Wendy McMillan.

CCL Issues an RFP for State of Provincial and Territorial Data Applicable to Research on Learning in Canada

CCL’s Research and Knowledge Mobilization team has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for an inventory of the state of provincial and territorial data sets that can be applied to research on learning in Canada. The goal is to create an inventory of the data available to support research and inform policy and practice in the areas of early childhood learning, elementary and secondary school learning, post-secondary learning, adult learning, work and learning, and health and learning. A similar RFP for aboriginal learning will be issued at a later date, following consultations with leaders in the aboriginal community.

All proposals must be submitted by midnight, September 1, 2005 in electronic form using PDF, HTML, Microsoft Word, or PowerPoint formats.

For more information on the RFP, contact Marc Lachance, Associate Director, Monitoring and Reporting.

CCL’s 2004-2005 Annual Report now available

CCL’s annual report for 2004-2005 provides an overview of the numerous mechanisms that were set in motion during CCL’s foundational year to ensure CCL’s future success. CCL’s approach was based on five “P’s” – establishing priorities; making plans; developing processes and partnerships, and producing results.
