The Aboriginal Learning Knowledge Centre gears up for national conference in March

The knowledge centre’s first annual conference will be held in Edmonton on March 7–9, 2007. This national event will bring together Aboriginal people from across the country. Participants will engage in a dialogue on the diverse perspectives of lifelong learning and discuss the results of an earlier workshop, which explored how to develop a more holistic approach to measurement in order to recognize all aspects of lifelong learning that impact the individual and collective well-being of Aboriginal communities.

The workshop on Feb. 8–9, 2007, conducted by CCL and the Aboriginal Learning Knowledge Centre, in partnership with the National Aboriginal Organizations (NAO) in Canada, examined how to redefine learning success for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. The two-day workshop brought together Aboriginal learning professionals, community practitioners, researchers and analysts to initiate the development of three distinct holistic lifelong learning models to measure learning progress for First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities.

The specific objectives of the workshop were to:

  • identify the areas of learning, represented within three holistic lifelong learning models, that foster success in First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, and
  • identify the indicators that are needed to measure learning progress for First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, based on the three holistic lifelong learning models.

Call for articles for CCL's Journal of Applied Research on Learning

The Canadian Council on Learning is pleased to invite submissions for its online peer-reviewed publication, the Journal of Applied Research on Learning (JARL). Authors of original applied research interested in submitting manuscripts to be considered for publication in JARL should review the Aims of the Journal of Applied Research on Learning, the Call for Submissions, as well as the Guidelines for Authors for detailed information on submission requirements.

JARL is intended to address topics that, while focussed on examples of applied research on learning, will offer readers relevant theoretical discussions and act as a catalyst for expanding existing knowledge in specific areas of practice and/or research on learning relevant to the Canadian context. The journal will be available through CCL's website as a free publication containing material written in both French and English. JARL will be published twice annually as a summer/fall issue and a winter/spring issue. The first issue will be published in spring 2007.

We invite you to circulate this announcement to colleagues, graduate students, researchers and/or organizations who may be interested in submitting a manuscript to JARL for consideration. The deadline for submissions of manuscripts for the next issue of JARL is March 30, 2007.

Questions can be addressed to the editorial staff of JARL.
