CCL’s 2007 Composite Learning Index (CLI) is being released at the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators’ annual conference in Calgary.

The CLI, introduced in 2006, is the world’s only comprehensive annual index that reports on the state of learning on a national and a community-by-community level. The index is composed of a suite of indicators grouped under four pillars of learning: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be. The indicators take into account diverse factors such as learning through sports and culture, university attainment, volunteering and workplace training, to compile a profile of communities and of the country. Canada’s 2007 CLI score shows a slight increase from 73 in 2006 to 76 in 2007.

The 2007 edition of the Composite Learning Index offers several enhancements such as improved mapping technology and a “CLI simulator” that allows communities to adjust learning indicators to see the impact on their CLI score.
