Report on rural education reviews progress and successes

Rural Education: A Review of Provincial and Territorial Initiatives 2009 provides a profile of the progress being made in overcoming the challenges faced by Manitoba’s rural schools. It also presents initiatives undertaken across the country, information that will be useful to educators and rural communities throughout Canada.

This review is the result of a partnership to pursue research on top-priority issues by CCL and Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth.

Lessons in Learning—Post-secondary education in Canada: Who is missing out?

Despite Canada's high rates of post-secondary attainment, participation in PSE remains low among certain demographic groups in Canada, including students from low-income families, Aboriginal students and students with no history of higher education in their family. This article examines how Canada could raise these groups' post-secondary participation.

Employer investment in workplace learning

A new report from the Work and Learning Knowledge Centre looks at the conclusions of a series of regional roundtables that investigated ways to improve employer investment in training in Canada. These sessions, held throughout 2007 and 2008, brought together senior leaders from business, labour, government and education to discuss current challenges in the workplace that impede training and skills development.
